Abstract:
Vocabulary is considered the basic part of learning English, while comparison is one of the effective methods of vocabulary teaching in practice. From the angle of lexicology, the thesis describes the application of comparison in the sound, form and meaning of English vocabulary.
The thesis first analyses the method of comparison and its function, then it discusses the application of comparison in vocabulary teaching. The ways of comparison in vocabulary teaching include the comparison of sounds, comparison of synonyms, comparison of antonyms, etc. The article constructively proposes that we should  employ comparison appropriately and employ comparison when there is room for association .
